Abstract. The publication continues a series of articles of the renowned Russian cultural philosopher who conceptualises culture and gives explanation for emergence of various disciplines that study it. The stress is put on the issues of demarcation of cultural research with social sciences and the humanities. The Article 2 is dedicated to the subject matters of culturology and sociology and heuristic potential of these disciplines for analysing culture and society. The author argues that “sociology of culture” means sociology of mass culture whilst culturology is integrative for the reason that it embraces various issues concerning culture.
