Abstract. The article is devoted to the analyses of the performances of “Cherry orchard” implemented by Sergey Afanassiev in three theatres from 2005 to 2015. Afanassiev’s “Cherry orchard” first appeared as a French-Russian project on the stage of L’Enfumeraie theatre in Allon (France). French and Russian actors met in one show, the fact that contributed to the artistic impression from the famous Chekhov’s play very seriously. In Novosibirsk state theatre institute where the second version was made, the director’s tasks were adopted to the challenges of a graduate performance in a drama school. And the third release of the same artistic vision was implemented in Barnaul, in Youth Theatre of Altai. In this case the fact that the performance was realized in a big auditorium also changed the initial concept.
Key words: Chekhov, “Cherry orchard”, director’s concept and its implementations, the problem of “remakes” in theatre.
