Abstract. The author addresses the works of professor V.A. Muravyev that are concerned with the problem of personality in history and culture. Doctor Muravyev was the master of historical biography and created portraits of renown researchers – Nikolay Pavlov-Silvansky, Boris Syromyatnikov, Nikolay Eroshkin and others. His research was aimed at actualisation of cultural memory linked to “history and historians”. Muravyev's works have encouraged establishing the human-focused historical study in Russia that has become an inherent part of the recent global trend.
