Abstract. Platonov’s symbolic image of bread is linked with the ideas of spiritual nourishment, continuation of life, creative realization. Quite often, although, the symbol receives an opposite meaning of non-assuagement, non-creation.
For the first the specified feature has appeared in Platonov’s satirical works written in the years of 1925 – 1927: “Antisexus”, “The Factory of literature”, “The Moscow society of consumers of literature (MSCL). The report of a chronicler”. In the “trilogy” occurs polemic rethinking of Mayakovsky’s bread metaphors as an expression of the lifebuilding idea of the leftist literature.
At the same time, with a readers figure gradual inclusion in the narrative, a whole wide range of meanings of Platonov’s symbol of bread is building up. The manifestation of symbol’s multidimensionality is closely connected to the author’s contraposition Mayakovsky – Esenin.
