Abstract. During the «Belle Époque», when in fact Nice becomes the winter capital of France, local carnival tradition reaches its culmination. This article focuses on the ambivalent reflection of the Nice Carnival (as a major component of the local cultural myth) in prose, epistolary and memoirs of French and Russian writers of the late XIX – early XX centuries.
