Abstract. The analysis of issues related to intangible cultural heritage within the international framework of legal regulations (including the legislation of the Commonwealth of Independent States) as well as within Russian legal system. The author examines the advantages and drawbacks caused by Russia’s rejection to ratificate the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003). The justification of the necessity of the elaboration of a federal law for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage in Russia.
