Maritime Intangible Heritage on the UNESCO’s Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage
Abstract. The article considers the most notable examples of maritime intangible cultural heritage published in the lists of intangible cultural heritage established under the UNESCO Convention. Most of the examples are related to the traditional practices of shipbuilding, shipping, fishing, and the accompanying social ties, beliefs, and customs. The author also gives examples of Russian unique elements of marine intangible culture that have the potential to be included in the Register of Intangible Heritage of the Peoples of Russia and in the UNESCO Intangible Heritage Lists.
