Abstract. Servicing the modern consumer society involves the creation of special systems that function with the maximal rationality. To describe them, more than 30 years ago, the theory of McDonaldization was created, the main components of which are efficiency, computability, predictability and control. At the same time, superrational systems are characterized by side effects, the negative impact of which on the situation is quite large. Since McDonaldization is not limited only to the food industry, but also covers other areas of socio-economic activity, the author analyzes the trends in the transformation of objects and processes of the urban environment in the context of its approximation to the requirements of the consumer society and compliance with the basic components of McDonaldized processes.
Key words: McDonaldization, consumer society, efficiency, irrational rationality, urban environment, beautification, development, transformation.
