Abstract. The article describes a historical and navigational experiment conducted by the Pomor Shipbuilding Partnership in 2024 under the leadership of Evgeny Shkaruba, the purpose of which was to navigate the Mangazeya sea route on a replica of a traditional sewn karbas. The subject of consideration is the methodology of the experiment, the main geographical sections of the route are considered, including the key portages through the Kanin and Yamal peninsulas. In historical and cultural terms, the experiment is aimed at reconstructing the system of technologies and practices used by Russian pioneers of the 16th-17th centuries in terms of shipbuilding, navigation and navigation in the polar seas. The experiment is important for understanding the capabilities of historical ships in the development of the northern sea routes of Russia and reproducing the system of maritime practices of the 16th-17th centuries. The experiment should be considered as a preparatory phase for a large-scale project to reconstruct the sewn Pomor koch and organize voyages on it along various sections of the modern Northern Sea Route.
