Abstract. Bavarian King Ludwig II became widely known in the world, first of all, because of his magnificent castles and palaces. He was a fan of the culture of the middle ages and epochs French King Louis XIV. But for most of his contemporaries his hobbies have seemed strange, and the monarch eventually was found insane, removed from power and died tragically. However, castles and palaces, intended to create in the mind of King specific world, have become objects of cultural heritage, formed around of it particular public environment, and positive externalities helped to compensate construction costs effectively. But naturally, this is not a merit of the King, abused his right to personal interests.
Key words: Ludwig II of Bavaria, irrational projects, positive externalities, palaces and castles in Bavaria, a private interest, the public interest, an intangible asset, an object of cultural heritage.
