Abstract. The article examines the issues of creation and activities of fire protection agencies in the Kaliningrad region at the initial stage of its existence. Based on documents not previously introduced into scientific circulation and stored in the archive of the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Kaliningrad Region, the features of the creation of structures ensuring fire safety in the region are considered, the difficulties that fire protection agencies had to face in carrying out their activities are identified, and the features of preventive work to prevent fires and reduce the damage caused by them are reflected.
