Abstrct. The author argues that transition from the Old to the New can be interpreted in terms of mythology, through the phenomenon of the threshold, the so-called “Janus syndrome”, involving the moments of crisis, and is manifested in the social and individual spheres, including language, the dichotomy of tradition vs. innovation, and memory.
