The Soviet state and Buddhism in 1917-1946

Abstract. The review describes the monograph by F.L.Sinitsyna «The Red Storm»: the Soviet State and Buddhism in 1917-1946»(St. Petersburg, 2013), which analyzes the Soviet policy towards the Buddhist faiths, as well as the life of the Buddhist community during one of the most difficult periods in Russian history.

Key words:: Buddhism, religious policy, national policy, Buryatia, Kalmykia, Tuva, Mongolia.
