Abstract. The nightingale has always been an integral part of man’s views about the world. Since antiquity, the main feature of the Nightingale is its song. In medieval Europe, the description of the nightingale was formed under the influence of theology. The Baroque books of emblems developed medieval symbolism of the Nightingale, using all the details of its traditional descriptions. New emblems, with the Nightingale as an important detail, appeared at this time. Baroque symbolism survived to the end of the XVIII century and was partially reflected in the so-called “language of flowers”.
