Аbstract. The article examines the activities of the Rostov branch of the Union of Architects of the USSR in the war and post-war years. The role of the Don architects in the restoration of the destroyed region and the preservation of historical features and unique architectural flavor is determined. The work of the Union on maintaining the high level of professional training of its members is analyzed. The techniques and methods of architects' work on fixing preserved historical and architectural monuments are presented. The study uses archival materials from the foundation of the Rostov branch of the Union of the Military and Post-war Period, which were first introduced into scientific circulation. The author comes to the conclusion that the work of architects, although associated with the transformation of the external environment, is closely aimed at preserving the historical heritage. In the post-war period, architects laid the vector for the development of the architectural image of the cities and towns of the Don Region. The architectural monuments of previous eras became the foundation of this development.
