Representation of Biblical Meanings in Postmodern Art: the Examples
of Gilles Deleuze, Peter Greenaway, and Umberto Eco
Abstract. The article regards the problem of interrelation of art styles from the 1st to the 20th centuries A.D. in the context of Christian religion’s history. The author reveals peculiarities of aesthetic perception of Christian values by postmodern artists and philosophers. The object of the research is analytical essays on the philosophy of art by Gilles Deleuze, artistic works by Umberto Eco and film plays by Peter Greenway. The artistic interpretations of the Christian Baroque proposed by these authors in their works reveal the fundamental components of the aesthetics of postmodernism, as a key art style of the second half of the 20th century.
