Abstract. The publication continues a series of articles of the renowned Russian cultural philosopher who conceptualises culture and prospects for development of cultural research. In this article the stress is put on issues of “disciplinary doubling” and importance of comprehending the domain of culturology. The author displays specificity of anthropological approach, traditionally linked to ethnographic interest in preliterate culture and notices that a cultural philosopher has to determine a border between culture, which he considers his own and other cultures. The culturology, which fuses all types of knowledge about culture, meets contemporary challenges and thus supports a cultural research boom. The author believes that consideration of the latter can help to realise how culturology has emerged as a particular discipline from the polyphony of approaches in cultural research.
