Abstract. The article analyzes the problem of the functional properties of the concept of «historical and cultural memory.» The main approaches to the concept of «historical and cultural memory» are considered: philosophical-ethical, historical-transmission, cultural-anthropological, systemic-sociological and hermeneutic-semiotic approaches. The novelty of the methodological approaches proposed by the authors to the declared concept is the establishment of a relationship with related concepts. The concepts of cultural and historical memory are highlighted: the moral climate of memory, the social construct of memory, the experience of generations, memorialization, and the reconstruction of culture. As a result, it is concluded that the semantic field of methodological approaches converges in the mediating filter link - the «culture of memory» as a significant element of identity concentration. Based on the semantic units of methodological approaches, the functional properties of the concept of «historical and cultural memory» are determined: moral responsibility for preserving the cultural experience of the past, transferring historical and cultural experience, national identity and originality of cultural sovereignty, constructing a space of social solidarity, cultural coding. Groups of functions identified in the structural model fully correspond to methodological approaches to the concept of «historical and cultural memory» and are distributed in blocks that form the corresponding structure of functional dominants: blocks of cultural experience, natural historical and cultural communication, cultural identity, cultural stability, iconic historical and cultural memorial communication.
