Cultural and Historical Foundations in Gens Research<br>Concerned with the Russian Provincial Tradition

Abstract. The author analyses cultural and historical approaches to research in provincial gentes as a cultural phenomenon and represents results of the study in the history of the Zhiloi-Zhilov family from the town of Rybinsk in Yaroslavl Region. The study covers the 17th — beginning of the 20th century and demonstrates specificity of the regional tradition.
